Activities description:

The company was founded in 1993 but the team worked together before. Since the middle of 80s it developed image-processing technologies in the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence managed by Vladimir Arlazarov in the Institute for System Studies (later renamed as institute for System Analysis) of Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1970s Arlazarov’s laboratory developed "Kaissa" (the first world chess computer champion) and DBMS «INES» for IBM 360/370-compatible mainframes (2000 installations in the largest government offices of the Soviet Union). Early in 1990s the team developed OCR Tiger and CuneiForm that are widely marketed even now. Due to the academic background and good working connections in the academic community, Cognitive Technologies has a real possibility to collaborate with eminent researchers who contribute the results of their high-level R&D for company products. Since the middle of 1990s, Cognitive Technologies works in speech technologies. It has developed tools to deal with phonetic and acoustic data, and accumulated a significant amount of phonetic data, organised on the basis of acoustic-dependent structuring of phonetic dictionaries. From the current systems for recognition of discrete speech with a limited dictionary, the company plans to proceed to recognition of connected speech.
